Terms of Service
Version 2026-09-05 · Last updated September 5, 2026
1. Who we are, and agreeing to these terms
Barflow is operated by an individual based in Missouri, United States (“we”, “us”). By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.
Barflow is free to use. We do not charge for accounts today, and these terms assume that; if we ever introduce paid features, we will publish separate terms for them before charging anyone.
2. Age
You must be at least 21 years old to create a Barflow account. Barflow is about alcoholic drinks, and we do not make it available to anyone below the legal drinking age in the United States. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 21, we will close it.
3. Your account
Give us accurate registration information and keep it current. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account and for keeping your password secure. Tell us promptly at privacy@barflow.app if you believe someone else has gained access to it.
Your username is permanent and public. Choose it accordingly — it cannot be changed after registration.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Break the law, or use Barflow to help anyone else break it.
- Post content you do not have the right to post, including recipes or text copied from a book, site, or other source without permission.
- Post content that is abusive, harassing, hateful, deceptive, or that targets a private individual.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download Barflow's data outside the API and its rate limits, or attempt to work around those limits.
- Probe, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or to another user's account.
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or organisation.
5. Your content
Recipes and other content you create stay yours. To run the service we need permission to store and display them, so by publishing content to Barflow you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display that content for the purpose of operating and promoting Barflow. This licence exists so we can show your recipe to the people you published it for; it does not make the content ours, and it ends when you delete the content, subject to the retention note in our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the rights to post it. A list of ingredients is generally not protected by copyright, but the written method, headnote, or photograph accompanying a recipe usually is — do not copy those from someone else.
We do not pre-screen content, and we are not responsible for content posted by users. We may remove content or close accounts that break these terms.
6. Our content and the API
Barflow's own recipe and ingredient data, the site design, and the Barflow name belong to us. Using the service does not transfer any of that to you.
API keys are issued to a person or project and are personal to you — do not share or resell them. Requests are rate-limited, and we may reduce a limit, revoke a key, or decline a request for access without giving a reason. We may change or withdraw API endpoints; we will give reasonable notice for breaking changes where we can.
7. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Barflow infringes your copyright, send a notice to privacy@barflow.app including: your contact details; identification of the work you say is infringed; identification of the material on Barflow and enough detail for us to find it; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorised to act for them; and your signature.
We remove infringing material when we receive a valid notice, and we close the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address.
8. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, we may act on them freely and without obligation to you. We will not treat feedback as confidential, so do not send us anything you need kept secret.
9. Recipes are not advice
Barflow is a reference tool, not a source of health, safety, or dietary advice. Ingredient data, allergen information, and measurements may be incomplete or wrong, and community recipes are written by other users and are not checked by us. Check anything that matters — particularly allergens — against the product in your hand.
Nothing on Barflow encourages excessive or unlawful drinking, and you are responsible for drinking, serving, and driving decisions you make.
10. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Barflow and delete your account from your account page at any time; doing so also deletes the recipes you created. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop offering the service entirely — in which case we will give account holders reasonable notice where it is practical to do so. Sections 5, 9, 11, 12, and 13 survive the end of this agreement.
11. Disclaimers
Barflow is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that its data is accurate or complete. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of Barflow. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100). Because Barflow is free, this limit reflects what you have paid us. Again, some jurisdictions limit these exclusions, and where that is so they apply only as far as the law allows.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from content you post, your use of Barflow, or your breach of these terms.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the version and date at the top of this page.
For material changes, we will email account holders, and you will be asked to accept the updated terms the next time you use your account. Account features will be unavailable until you do, and your acceptance is recorded against the specific version you agreed to. If you would rather not accept, you can log out and ask us to delete your account.
Corrections that do not change the substance — a typo, formatting, a broken link — do not change the version and do not require you to accept anything again.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Jackson County, Missouri, and you and we consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence.
16. General
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between us about Barflow. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign this agreement; we may assign it if Barflow is transferred.
Barflow's interface is available in several languages, but this agreement is offered only in English, and the English text governs.
